Directions from AUCKLAND to TAIRUA
for Directions from LAKE TAUPO to TAIRUA
Depart Auckland heading South on State Highway 1 (Southern Motorway).
After crossing the Bombay Hills, turn left at the foot of the hill and onto State Highway 2
(sign-posted Thames or Coromandel Peninsula).
Turn left onto State Highway 25 following road signs to Thames.
After crossing Kopu Bridge (a long, single-lane bridge controlled by traffic lights)
keep following road signs to Tairua. You will turn right at the T-junction with the Service Station and then left within one kilometre (half a mile) onto State Highway 25A still following road signs to Tairua. This road takes you over the main range to Hikuai where the highway changes to SH 25 and at this point follow signposts to Tairua and Whitianga heading in a Northerly direction.
Follow this State Highway 25 till you reach Tairua.
In the middle of the township, turn right opposite the Gull Service Station into Manaia Road and continue to end of this road. Turn right into Paku Drive then up a winding road to the top of Paku Hill.

Kopu to Tairua 45 minutes
Hikuai to Tairua 15 minutes
Directions from LAKE TAUPO to TAIRUA
Depart Lake Taupo heading North to Rotorua on State Highway 5.
Continue into Rotorua via Fenton Street, turn Right into Amohau Street (as if going to Whakatane), follow Te Ngae Road past the airport and continue straight ahead on S.H. 33 to Te Puke and Tauranga. ( Do not turn right to Whakatane).
Follow your map to S.H.2 and proceed to Waihi township.
Take S.H.25 to Whangamata and on to Tairua.
